Consultations
Dr. Wayne Peters
is coordinating our onsite consultation service where the results
of heartscan and Healthscan reports can be reviewed on the same day
of scanning. In addition, patients who have been previously scanned
or who have concerns about coronary prevention can call us to schedule
such a consultation. We very much encourage patients to undergo a
Healthscan global risk factor evaluation and to bring in results of
recent cholesterol lab work to these visits.
Cardiology referrals:
CHBI has identified several cardiologists in the region who have
demonstrated a good understanding of the principles of coronary imaging
and preventive cardiology. We also are aware of other cardiologists
who have consistently failed to demonstrate that they understand the
guidelines which have been published in this field. We will steer
you to the best physicians for your situation!
Lipid Specialists:
There are a few specialists in our region who are interested in seeing
patients with typical and unusual cholesterol abnormalitiese-mail
us for a recommendation. Dr. Robert Eckel is an endocrinologist and
professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center. A nationally known authority in areas concerning cholesterol,
nutrition, obesity and diabetes, he is sometimes available for consultation
at the UCHSC lipid clinic. Dr. Wayne Peters is also available for
consultation regarding cholesterol issues as is Dr.John Merenich for
Kaiser patients with complex cholesterol abnormalities. We would be
happy to contact these doctors and other experts for you.
Pulmonary specialists:
Certain patients with sizeable or potentially important lesions on
chest EBT scans should be visiting with lung specialists either directly
or via their primary care doctors. We can be of help in recommending
knowledgeable physicians. We often seek advice from Dr. Thomas Petty,
an internationally known authority in chest diseases. He recently
has published a monograph on the early detection of lung cancer.
Dr. John Rumberger
—is perhaps the nation’s leading authority on coronary imaging and
has developed many of the guidelines our center uses based upon coronary
calcium scores. He lectures widely and can be reached through our
Medical Director
e-mail
us.
Gastroenterologists:
We have developed relationships with top gastroenterologists in the
region who will be available to handle abnormalities detected on a
virtual colonoscopy exam. National authority on colon screening and
Denver VA gastroenterology chairman Dr. Dennis Ahnen has been helpful
for our programs. E-mail
us for our suggestions for GI doctor referral.
Osteoporosis experts:
Dr. Paul Miller is an internationally acknowledged authority on bone
density measurement and runs the Colorado Center for Bone Research.
He is available for consultation for patients with abnormal bone density
tests.
