Electron Beam Angiography
Electron Beam Angiography (EBA) is an alternative to conventional
cardiac catheterization (coronary angiography). EBA is performed by
injecting intravenous contrast into an arm vein and using the EBT scanner
to create images depicting the anatomy and size of coronary arteries
and blood flow.
It is available by physician referral only after a review
by our medical director. We will work with area cardiologists and our
own radiologists who are trained in this exciting method of examining
coronary vessels.
In general, it has value as a diagnostic tool in patients
with certain types of chest symptoms or a failed stress test--especially
when the likelihood for an angioplasty is low. In addition, it can be
used in certain patients who have already undergone an angioplasty or
bypass operation to verify that the arteries are still open. Our physician
section has more technical information about this procedure.
