Colorado Heart & Body Imaging Signs New Physician Consultants

Cardiology and pulmonary experts added to imaging center staff

DENVER - Colorado Heart and Body Imaging (CHBI), a Denver-based comprehensive preventive imaging center, has announced the addition of two new physician consultants to its clinical operations in Denver. Cardiologist John Rumberger, Ph.D., M.D., and renowned lung specialist Dr. Thomas Petty will assume an active role in program development. In addition, former University of Colorado School of Medicine professor Dr. Hywel Davies and Dr. Michel Romanens, a consultant in non invasive non-invasive cardiology and preventive medicine, have agreed to serve as research advisors for future atherosclerosis studies from their locations in Switzerland.

“Frankly, great expertise and knowledgeable individuals involved in research, teaching and guidelines development has always distinguished our programs from regional radiologic practices which only offer technical services,”. says Dr. James Ehrlich, medical director and founder of CHBI. “Attracting internationally recognized experts ensures that our patients will receive the most current information, and our physicians will gain access to emerging capabilities as they develop.”, says Dr. James Ehrlich, medical director and founder of CHBI.

Dr. Rumberger is generally considered the nation’s foremost authority in electron beam tomography and has developed many of the coronary imaging clinical guidelines used worldwide. Currently a clinical professor at Ohio State University, Rumberger’s major contributions to the field occurred during his tenure as an academic cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His extensive research and clinical interests involve quantitative cardiovascular imaging, electron beam tomography and the complete clinical and radiologic evaluation of the cardiac and peripheral vascular systems. He also is a pPreventive Ccardiologist and has developed clinical decision-making algorithms incorporating interventional lipid management with information from non-invasive coronary and vascular imaging using electron beam tomography.

Based in Denver, Dr. Petty has achieved an international reputation as a pioneer in our modern understanding of both acute and chronic lung disease. His current interest - and the subject of most of his recent writing - has been the advancement of technologies and laboratory methods to detect early lung cancer, at a stage when therapy shows the greatest success. A professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver and Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Petty, Petty has published more than 750 articles and has authored or edited 33 books or editions. Currently, he is the chairman of the National Lung Health Education Program, (NLHEP), a new healthcare initiative designed for primary care physicians and the public and the editor of “Lung Cancer Frontiers,”, a newsletter which reaches the entire lung medicine physician community in North America.

CHBI Medical director Dr. James Ehrlich remains active in academic and clinical aspects of preventive imaging, while continuing to enlist the assistance of highly regarded specialists in cardiology, radiology, gastroenterology and endocrinology.

About Colorado Heart & Body Imaging

Founded in 1997, Colorado Heart & Body Imaging is a world-class, comprehensive, preventive screening center located in Denver, Colo. The center offers lung, heart, colon, total body and bone density imaging for early detection of coronary disease and cancer as well as non-imaging based services and consultation. CHBI uses FDA-approved electron beam tomography (EBT), with its extraordinarily fast acquisition speeds. Unlike slower and higher radiation helical (spiral) mechanical equipment, EBT’s usefulness for coronary imaging and cardiac risk assessment has been validated extensively in the cardiology literature. CHBI is associated with Colorado Imaging Associates, P.C., a group of board certified radiologists serving the Denver area since 1957, with extensive experience and training in all areas of diagnostic imaging.
