What Is Involved for You
what is EBT
what is involved

You will be asked to complete a conventional risk factor questionnaire with a brief description of your current health status and to sign a consent form.

For most procedures, EKG electrodes are applied to the lower abdomen so as to electronically "freeze" cardiac activity. Studies are completed during one to two deep breaths as multiple images of the chest or abdomen are obtained.

There are no injections involved, no exercise requirements, no need to disrobe (except for a gown in virtual colonoscopy) and no changes necessary in current medications.

The x-ray dose is low. However, for those interested in lowering the possible long term risks of x-rays, we have a safe customized antioxidant pill called "Bio-shield" that can be taken upon arrival at the facility at no charge.

We encourage patients who are getting a "total body scan" to arrive at the facility about an hour early to drink a dilute barium contrast solution, although it is not a requirement. There is a gentle diet and bowel preparation necessary for virtual colonoscopy that starts in the days before the procedure.
